NEW YORK — Not playing is working out well for the Red Sox.

The Rays lost 5-1 against Toronto tonight and now trail the Red Sox by three games in the loss column. Toronto will have the estimable Ricky Romero on the mound tomorrow night against Jeff Niemann.

The Angels are playing Oakland now and trail 1-0.
