BALTIMORE — X-rays were negative on Jarrod Saltalamacchia's right collarbone and he hopes to be able to play tomorrow night.

Saltalamacchia has a baseball-sized lump on his shoulder, the result of the foul tip he took in the eighth inning. He throws righthanded, so playing could be a long shot.

"I'll do the best I can," he said. "I'll treat it and go there tomorrow and see how it feels moving around."

Jason Varitek would not speculate on whether he could return tomorrow night. He missed tonight's game with a badly bruised right knee. He tried some jogging before the game and playing catch and could not continue.

"Let's see what happens tomorrow," he said.

If their regular catchers cannot go, presumably Ryan Lavarnway would get the start. Saltalamacchia and Varitek have started the 160 games to date.
