ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. A few other items picked up before the game:

Conor Jackson has been cleared to play. He has four at-bats since being obtained on Aug. 31.

Terry Francona said he wanted to leave Alfredo Aceves in the bullpen because they don't have anybody to replace him there. They have discussed starting him but the situation would have to be more dire.

No progress for J.D. Drew. He can't swing a bat or play catch.

Daisuke Matsuzaka is around for a few days, having been furloughed from Fort Myers. He's rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He now has longer hair and a good tan.
