Red Sox announce minor league award winners

The Sox are holding a ceremony on the field now to honor their minor league award winners.

Here's the list via the press release:

Pitcher of the Year: RHP Alex Wilson, Double-A Portland/Triple-A Pawtucket: Combined to go 10-4 with a 3.11 ERA (46 ER/133.0 IP) and 123 strikeouts in 25 starts between Portland and Pawtucket as a 24-year-old…Ranked among organizational minor league leaders in wins (T-2nd, 10), innings pitched (3rd, 133.0 IP ) and strikeouts (T-2nd, 123)…Was named an Eastern League mid-season All-Star and Sea Dogs Pitcher of the Year having gone 9-4 with a 3.05 ERA (38 ER/112.0 IP) in 21 starts with a team-leading 99 strikeouts prior to his Triple-A promotion…Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Offensive Co-Player of the Year: RF Bryce Brentz, Single-A Greenville/Single-A Salem: Hit .306 (140-for-458) with 25 doubles, 30 homers, 94 RBI and 40 walks in 115 games between Greenville and Salem…At 23-years-old, led the Red Sox minor leagues in batting average and RBI and ranked second in home runs…Set a franchise record for the Greenville Drive with a 36-game on-base streak to start the season…Hit .359 (61-for-170) for the Drive with 10 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 36 RBI and 14 walks before making his Salem debut on May 21…Named Player of the Week in both the South Atlantic League (May 9-15) and the Carolina League (June 27-July 3), and Topps Player of the Month in the Carolina League for August after hitting .321 (34-for-106) with 7 home runs and 23 RBI during the month…Was Boston’s second pick (36th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

Offensive Co-Player of the Year: C Ryan Lavarnway, Double-A Portland/Triple-A Pawtucket: Batted .290 (126-for-435) with 23 doubles, 32 home runs, 57 walks and 93 RBI in 116 games with Portland and Pawtucket…Led Boston’s minor league system in home runs, the most homers by a Red Sox farmhand since 2004 (Earl Snyder, 36), and ranked second in RBI to earn Offensive Co-Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season…The 24-year-old was named International League Player of the Week for July 18-24 and received International League Player of the Month honors for July, batting .362 (38-for-105) with 11 doubles, nine home runs, and 27 RBI in that span…Made his Major League debut on August 18 and has hit .259 (7-for-27) with two doubles, four RBI and four walks over 11 games in his two stints with the Red Sox…Selected as the eighth pick by the Red Sox (sixth round, 202nd overall) in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Defensive Player of the Year: C Christian Vazquez, Single-A Greenville: Committed just nine errors in 904 chances for a .991 fielding percentage in 97 games as catcher, throwing out 33% of opposing base stealers in 2011…Hit .283 (111-for-444) with 27 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 84 RBI and 43 walks in 105 games with the Drive…The 21-year-old was twice named Player of the Week in the South Atlantic League (June 20-26 and August 29-Septemeber 5)…Was the Red Sox 11th pick (9th round, 292th overall) in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Base Runner of the Year: CF Felix Sanchez, Single-A Greenville: Led the South Atlantic League with 55 stolen bases, the most in the Red Sox organization, after pacing the New York-Penn League with a Spinners-record 38 stolen bases in 2010…The 21-year-old was caught stealing just 10 times for an 84.6 percent success rate…Ranked among team leaders in runs (1st, 81), triples (2nd, 7) and walks (T-2nd, 23)…Signed as an international free agent in 2008.

Minor League Latin Program Pitcher of the Year: LHP Pedro Reyes, Rookie-Level Dominican Summer League Red Sox: Was 5-2 with a 2.88 ERA (22 ER/68.2 IP) in 14 starts for the DSL Red Sox…The 18-year-old allowed just 13 walks in 14 starts…Led the team in starts, innings pitched and strikeouts (55).

Minor League Latin Program Player of the Year: OF Ynoel Aguero, Rookie-Level Dominican Summer League Red Sox: Hit .303 (72-for-238) with 11 doubles, 31 RBI, 46 walks and 27 stolen bases in 67 games for the DSL Red Sox…The 20-year-old switch-hitter paced the club in hits, doubles, stolen bases, and OPS (.796).

Lou Gorman Award: LHP Tommy Hottovy, Double-A Portland/Triple-A Pawtucket: Made his Major League debut at 29-years-old on June 3 in his eight professional seasons and appeared in eight games out of the bullpen for the Red Sox with a 6.75 ERA (3 ER/4.0 IP)…Also combined for a 2.47 ERA (15 ER/54.2 IP) with two saves, 47 strikeouts and 13 walks in 32 relief appearances between Portland and Pawtucket this season…Had a 1.93 ERA (4 ER/18.2 IP) with the Sea Dogs prior to joining the PawSox on May 14…Was Boston’s third pick (fourth round, 125th overall) in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft.

This is the first year of the Lou Gorman Award, which is given in honor of the beloved former Red Sox general manager and executive who died in April 2011. It will be presented annually to a Red Sox minor league player who has demonstrated dedication and perseverance in overcoming obstacles while working his way to the Major League team.
