The Red Sox have scheduled a news conference at 3 p.m. tomorrow to introduce Ben Cherington as the team's next executive vice president/general manager.

Also tomorrow, the Cubs will hold a news conference at noon to introduce Theo Epstein as the team's new president of baseball operations. Epstein resigned as Red Sox general manager on Friday.

Cherington has been senior vice president/assistant general manager for the Red Sox since 2009.

While the teams have not agreed on compensation for the Red Sox letting Epstein out of his contract a year early, they've agreed on the move. They have until Nov. 1 to finalize compensation before baseball commissioner Bud Selig steps in and mediates the situation.

We'll have coverage, including photos and video, of both events as they unfold tomorrow right here in Extra Bases.
