If the front office soap opera has become boring to you, follow the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League.

Will Middlebrooks is 4 for 8 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and a walk in two games. The AFL is a prospect finishing school of sorts for top prospects and a good performance by Middlebrooks could have an impact on how the Red Sox build their roster for 2012.

If Middlebrooks looks like he'll be ready for the majors at some point in 2012 the Sox might be more willing to let David Ortiz walk and make Kevin Youkilis the DH. Or keep Ortiz and trade Youkilis.

They could always use Mike Aviles or Jed Lowrie to play third base for a few months until Middlebrooks is deemed ready.

One way or another, the Red Sox need to get younger and the best way to do that would be incorporating players like Middlebrooks, Ryan Lavarnway, Ryan Kalish, Jose Iglesias, etc. Arizona will provide a good opportunity for the team to get a handle on how close Middlebrooks is.
