Cubs hire Dale Sveum as manager
MILWAUKEE — The Cubs have hired Dale Sveum as their manager, signing him to a three-year deal with an option for 2015.
The press conference will be tomorrow morning in Chicago.
Sveum, up until yesterday, was seen as the favorite to become the next manager of the Red Sox. He interviewed at Fenway Park on Nov. 2 and appeared to be the clear favorite of Ben Cherington and the baseball operations staff.
But the Red Sox did not offer Sveum the job after his lunch meeting with John Henry, Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino and Cherington yesterday. The Cubs then moved to secure Sveum last night.
The Red Sox, meanwhile, continue their search to replace Terry Francona, who left the organization on Sept. 30.
