MILWAUKEE Red Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner just finished up their meeting with Dale Sveum.

It started at 11:30 a.m. here and didn't finish until just before 2 p.m. Henry and Werner were accompanied by Larry Lucchino and Ben Cherington. The meeting was held at Ward's House of Prime only two blocks from the Pfister Hotel.

Cherington returned first followed by Henry, Lucchino and Werner about 15 minutes later.

Cherington immediately headed for another meeting. Henry and Werner spoke only briefly.

"We had a nice lunch," Werner said. "That's all I really have to say."

Henry said "no" when asked if the Red Sox had hired a manager yet.

Sveum is also expected to meet with the Chicago Cubs again, likely today. It is uncertain if the Red Sox have identified a second finalist.

That the owners met with Sveum for two and a half hours would seem to indicate a great deal of interest in him.

So, did Henry pay for lunch?

"No," he said. "Well, I probably did."

UPDATE, 7:14 p.m.: Sveum met with the Cubs last night. It was described as more of an informal, follow-up interview.
