Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Terry Francona is a candidate to replace retired Tony La Russa in St. Louis.

Other candidates, Strauss reports, are Ryne Sandberg, Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo, Triple-A Memphis manager Chris Maloney, former Cardinals catcher Mike Matheny and White Sox coach Joe McEwing.

The Cards will start interviews tomorrow and hope to have their man in place within 10 days.
