What Bobby Valentine meant to one family

You've heard a lot about Bobby Valentine already and you'll hear and read plenty more in the weeks and months to come. As with any public figure, there are differing opinions.

But when it comes to the work he did in and around New York after the Sept. 11 attacks, there is only praise for Valentine. This ESPN.com story by Steve Wulf details the impact Valentine had one family who lost their father.

I personally witnessed what the games at Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium meant to people in 2001 and the years that followed. Nobody stood taller than Bobby when it came to helping families out.

None of us know what kind of manager he will be for the Red Sox. But when you read stories like this, at least you'll get a sense of what kind of person is in the dugout.
