Major League Baseball announced tonight that the Texas Rangers won the bidding for Japanese righthander Yu Darvish.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reported their bid was $51.7 million, which tops the $51,111,111 the Red Sox wasted on bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Texas now has 30 days to negotiate a deal for Darvish, who is represented by Arn Tellem.

In other news, reports from WEEI and the Herald say the Red Sox have hired Mike Boyle as their new strength coach. He worked with the Bruins, BU hockey and other area teams and athletes.
