FORT MYERS, Fla. — It's a bit dank in the Fort this morning and there's a chance of rain. But hopefully the weather will clear enough for the Red Sox to have their first full-squad workout of spring training.
But first there will be a meeting at 9 a.m. in the minor league cafeteria. The owners, GM Ben Cherington, manager Bobby Valentine and other team officials will address the players.
It's the one time all year that when John Henry gets up to talk to a room full of people, half of them have spit cups. Maybe if he hands out free headphones they'll sit up straight and listen.
The owners usually meet with the media after the meeting. Given that the Red Sox have not won a playoff series since 2008, there are certainly some questions that have to be asked.
The owners also will take part in a grand opening ceremony for JetBlue Park. Perhaps peanuts and blue chips will be served.
So hang out here. We'll have reports throughout the day.
