FORT MYERS, Fla. — Had I not stumbled into journalism, my plan was to be a high school history teacher. That idea was loosely based on my dad being teacher and all the books I read about U.S. history when I was a kid.

Spring training reminds me how glad I am to have this job. Because, man, do I hate getting up early. Those poor kids in first period would have hated me. I would have had the South winning the Civil War.

All season long, with the exception of day games, we usually get to work around 2:30 or 3 p.m. But in spring training the clubhouse opens at 8 a.m. Then the season starts and you flip the switch back.

Anyway, as for the Red Sox, the boring days are just about over. There will be a "B" game on Thursday and then the college doubleheader on Saturday. Having some real games to watch will be fun.

For now, there are workouts to watch and stories to ponder. Check back later for more.
