FORT MYERS, Fla. — Bobby Valentine is man enough to admit he was wrong.

Bobby V said yesterday he didn't believe the Yankees practiced that famous Derek Jeter flip play. But bullpen coach Gary Tuck, a former Yankees coach, confirmed that the Yankees indeed do work on the triple cutoff.

"Total mistake on my part because they do practice it, that’s for sure," Valentine said. "It’s hard to practice that because why are we going to practice a bad throw? That’s not what we’re doing here. But I get it. I get it."

Told that his comments yesterday were causing a bit of a stir in Yankees camp, Valentine laughed.

“I want it on record that I love Derek Jeter as a player," he said. "It was not a slight towards him. I love him as a guy, too.”
