FORT MYERS — Carlos Silva was scratched from his start Wednesday in Dunedin against the Jays. We'll find out more shortly. Justin Germano will start in his place against the Jays.
Carl Crawford said this morning he has no timetable as to when he'll be able to start playing. But clearly it'll be a while. He is shut down for a week, then will have to build up to hitting on the field, which will take, at a minimum, at least 7-10 days. Once he hits on the field for a few days, he could start playing.
Obviously Opening Day is unlikely.
Josh Beckett will start at St. Louis on Thursday if you're on that side of the state. Salty, Jose Iglesias, Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, Darnell McDonald and Jacoby Ellsbury are among those taking the long bus ride.
UPDATE, 10:33 a.m.: Silva has shoulder inflammation and is no longer in the mix for a rotation spot according to Valentine.
Sounds like it's a major issue as his long-term future "is being discussed" according to the manager.
