Daniel Bard, who was scheduled to start for the Red Sox tonight, will be skipped in the rotation.

The Red Sox will start Jon Lester in Minnesota on Monday with Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz to follow. Felix Doubront would start in Chicago on Thursday and Bard on Friday.

"That's the plan," Bobby Valentine said.

Valentine said the alternative of having Lester and Beckett pitching on two days of extra rest was not appealing.

Bard would be available to pitch out of the bullpen on Monday and perhaps Tuesday. Of course the Red Sox could always change the plan by finding a different starter for Friday and leaving Bard in the bullpen.

In other news:

• Jason Repko (shoulder) will go on the 15-day disabled list on Monday. Lars Anderson has been called up. He has been playing some outfield for Triple-A Pawtucket.

• Kevin Youkilis (left quad) was in the lineup had a game been played tonight.

• Marlon Byrd also was in the lineup, playing center field.
