A few notes from Bobby Valentine's pre-game media session:

Daisuke Matsuzaka will start a rehab assignment on Monday with Single-A Salem. Given that those assignments have a 30-day limit for pitchers, the Red Sox believe Matsuzaka can return to the majors on or around May 23.

Matsuzaka will be on a five-day routine and can throw up to 75 pitches in his first start. The Sox will not let him have 30-pitch innings, however.

Rich Hill will pitch for Pawtucket tomorrow.

Andrew Miller will remain with Pawtucket on his rehab assignment. There is no schedule for his use, as there was for his first six appearances. PawSox manager Arnie Beyeler can use him as he sees fit.

His rehab clock expires on May 7. The Sox have until then to figure out hat to do with Miller.

The decision to keep the rotation in order and start Daniel Bard on Sunday had a lot to do with Jon Lester throwing 80 pitches in two-plus innings in his last start. Given that stress that took on his arm, Valentine felt the extra day would do him good.

The Sox are wearing all-white caps and all-white uniforms with "Red Sox" in red letters on the front. There are no numbers. They're going to look like ice cream truck drivers.

The players are somewhat horrified that the pants are high, so they'll all have to wear their socks up. Valentine joked that he'll see the calf muscles of some players for the first time.

Mo Vaughn came into the clubhouse to say hello. Adrian Gonzalez came right over to say hello to the Hit Dog. The two talked hitting for a bit, too.
