This will come as no surprise given that he was pulled from the Pawtucket lineup last night. But Che-Hsuan Lin is on his way to Boston and will be activated for today's game. He and interpreter Mickey Jiang are flying in from Buffalo. The PawSox were in Rochester on Friday.

Bobby Valentine said on Friday he was comfortable using Cody Ross in center. Of the 633 games Ross has started in the outfield, 345 have been in center. Darnell McDonald is capable of playing in center, as is Ryan Sweeney.

Defensively, Lin would be the best of the group.

The Red Sox also could work Mike Aviles into the outfield mix on days when Nick Punto plays shortstop. Aviles worked on playing the outfield in winter ball.

No word yet on a leadoff hitter for today. But suffice it to say, with Jacoby Ellsbury out, there could be some creative lineups coming down the pike.

Check back later for the lineup and more from Fenway. Today's game starts at 4:05 p.m.
