Matsuzaka moving up to Portland
MINNEAPOLIS — Daisuke Matsuzaka will make his next minor league rehabilitation start on Saturday at Hadlock Field for Portland. He will face Reading.
Matsuzaka went four inning for Single-A Salem on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits. According to Bobby Valentine, Matsuzaka felt fine afterward.
In other news:
• Daniel Bard is not available tonight and is set to start on Friday in Chicago.
• Rich Hill is set to pitch for Pawtuket tonight and Wednesday. If he gets through the back-to-back games, that could be his last hurdle before returning to the big leagues.
• Carl Crawford was in Boston today to get his strained left elbow checked. Valentine said they were still waiting on a report. "Until a guy is 100 percent, you always have concern," he said.
• David Ortiz called Dustin Pedroia "a [really bad word] chihuahua" before the game.
