Stat of the Day: The Red Sox are 18-27 in their last 45 games at Fenway Park including 10-13 this season.

Notes: So much was expected of the Red Sox and Tigers. Here they are, each a game under .500. The Tigers, prohibitive favorites to win the Central, are three games out of first. The Sox are 5.5 games out in the East. ... Detroit started the season 9-3 and is 14-21 since, although they have won three straight. ... The Sox have won 11 of 16 but have dropped three of the last five. ... The Tigers swept three games from the Sox by a cumulative score of 26-14 from April 5-8 at Comerica Park. ... Doubront will be facing the Tigers for the first time in his career. The Sox are 6-3 in his starts this season. ... Fister went 3.2 scoreless innings against the Sox on April 7 then left the game with a strained muscle on his left side. That led to a month on the disabled list. He has made four starts since, posting a 2.10 ERA. Fister is 1-2, 2.89 in five career starts against the Sox. He has allowed two earned runs in 12 career innings at Fenway. ... Gonzalez is one homer shy of 200 for his career. ... Jim Leyland and Bobby Valentine have combined for 2,751 victories. Leyland is 1,611-1,609 in 21 seasons. Valentine is 1,140-1,096 in 16 years. Nearly 5,500 big league games between them. Pretty amazing.

Song of the Day: "Memorial Day" by Dropkick Murphys.
