Major League baseball announced today that Red Sox minor league righthanded pitcher Mathew Price has received a 50-game suspension after a second violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for a drug of abuse.

The suspension of Price, who is currently on the roster of the Single A Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League, will be effective immediately.

Price was an eighth-round pick in 2010 out of Virginia Tech. He was 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA last season. He has yet to appear in a game this season.
