KANSAS CITY According to a report by 98.5 The Sports Hub, Josh Beckett played golf in the Boston area when the Red Sox were off last Thursday.

At the time, Beckett was recovering from a strained right lat muscle. His start against the Orioles on Saturday was skipped. He is now scheduled to pitch on Thursday against Cleveland.

Bobby Valentine, in his weekly appearance on WEEI, said he did not know to what extent Beckett played or whether he actually did.

"Im trying to sort out my feelings," he said. "[If Beckett played] I would say that was less than the best thing to do on that day off."

It is worth noting that Beckett was not on the disabled list and was not shut down from working out. He also played catch at Fenway Park on Friday and said he felt fine. He has since progressed normally and will not have any limitations on his next start.

As Valentine said, the righthander had the start skipped for precautionary reasons, not because he was injured.
