Game over: Red Sox 2, Marlins 1: Alfredo Aceves allowed a leadoff single up the middle to Logan Morrison to open the ninth, but retired the next three batters to earn his 15th save. The game was played in 2:55 before 29,326.

Top 9th: Red Sox 2, Marlins 1: The Red Sox failed to add to their lead when David Ortiz took a called third strike on a pitch that looked outside. Aviles had reached on an error by third baseman Hanley Ramirez and Darnell McDonald singled to center with two outs.

Bottom 8th: Red Sox 2, Marlins 1: Vicente Padilla replaced Clay Buchholz (7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts). Padilla struck out pinch-hitter Gregg Dobbs, fell 3-0 to Jose Reyes, but got back to 3-2 with a few foul balls before lining out to center. Ramirez looped a single into short right. First and third two outs. Padilla struck out Stanton with a called third strike on a 95 mph fastball to end the inning. Stanton has struck out four times.

Top 8th: Red Sox 2, Marlins 1: With two outs Kevin Youkilis was hit with a pitch, but Middlebrooks grounded out to end the inning.

Bottom 7th: Red Sox 2, Marlins 1: Logan Morrison homered 378 feet to right field to pull to within one run. Buchholz nearly had his head ripped off by Chris Coghlan who bunted down the first line. Buchholz fielded the bunt and made the tag simultaneously as Coghlan caught his face and head and knocked Buchholz on his behind. The skinny pitcher bounced up and seemed OK. John Buck hit a long fly ball to center to end the inning. Buerhle's line: 7 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

Top 7th: Red Sox 2, Marlins 0: Stop the presses! The Red Sox scored a run! Will Middlebrooks singled to right with one out and Kelly Shoppach stroked his second double of the night vs. Mark Buehrle to left center, scoring Middlebrooks all the way from first as the Marlins flubbed up the cutoff throw. The offensive explosion continued with a Mike Aviles RBI single to center. Aviles got a second life when his foul pop up right at the Red Sox dugout was dropped when Buck's midsection buckled as a result of hitting the dugout railing.

Bottom 6th: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Buchholz walked Infante to start the inning and worked Hanley Ramirez to 2-2 before Ramirez grounded to shortstop where Mike Aviles made a nice diving stop, popped up, threw to second from where Dustin Pedroia turned the double-play. Buchholz then went 3-2 to Stanton and struck him out. It was his season-high eighth strike out.

Top 6th: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Darnell McDonald reached on a throwing error by second baseman Omar Infante and was moved to second on Buchholz' sac bunt. Podsednik struck out swinging and Pedroia grounded out to third to end the threat.

Bottom 5th: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Buchholz walked John Buck with one out, but struck out Buehrle and finally retired reyes on a fly ball out.

Top 5th: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: A leadoff walk by Adrian Gonzalez did the Red Sox no good as their offensive woes continue. Mike Aviles knocked into a double-play to end the inning.

Bottom 4th: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Buchholz is pitching a heck of a game again. What a turnaround he's made. He struck out Stanton and Morrison in a 1-2-3 inning.

Top 4th: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Buehrle has retired seven straight after Pedroia (ground out to first), Youkilis (ground out to third) and Middlebrooks (struck out) went down. Sox offense has been impotent of late.

Bottom 3rd: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Jose Reyes is wearing Buchholz out. A two-out single to go along with his triple, but Buchholz also allowed a single to Omar Infante. Hanley Ramirez hit a ball up the middle that Aviles ranged far for by Ramirez beat it out. On the play Reyes broke for the plate and was a dead duck when first baseman Kevin Youkilis threw to Kelly Shoppach at the plate.

Top 3rd: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Weird seeing Clay Buchholz bat lefthanded. He struck out after Darnell McDonald flew out to left field. Scott Podsednik grounded out to third base.

Bottom 2nd: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Buchholz sharp again. He retired Logan Morrison on a soft liner to third, struck ouit gaby Sanchez and got Chris Coghlan to fly out to left.

Top 2nd: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Kelly Shoppach doubled with two outs, poking a hit just inside the chalk down the right field line. But Mike Aviles grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.

Bottom 1st: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Impressive. Clay Buchholz surrendered a leadoff triple to Jose Reyes and then struck out the side. Reyes had also started Monday's game with a triple, but scored in that one.

Top 1st: Red Sox 0, Marlins 0: Mark Buehrle is one of the fastest working pitchers in baseball and he made quick order of the Red Sox in the first inning. This Red Sox lineup doesn't look too formidable tonight. Kelly Shoppach is batting sixth. Enough said.
