Dustin Pedroia says he's fine
Dustin Pedroia confirmed what we reported earlier today -- he's fine.
Pedroia, who took infield practice and seemed fine, said he was more "freaked out" by having his troublesome thumb jammed in last night's game and that he was available to play tonight. Bobby Valentine held him out of the lineup nonetheless just to make sure, Valentine indicated Pedroia would be available to play if needed.
Nick Punto will start at second base.
The Red Sox have tried to balance whether it's best to shut Pedroia down or allow him to play through. Pedroia wants to play and apparently will be allowed to play Thursday.
