TORONTO Nick Cafardo reports that scouts from the Phillies and Diamondbacks have been here to evaluate Kevin Youkilis.
A substantial number of teams have interest in the infielder, who is 11 of 35 since returning from the disabled list.
As to other news today:
Daniel Nava is starting his 24th consecutive game, Bobby Valentine having changed his plans to give the left fielder a day off.
Im going to give him tomorrow off, Valentine joked. I looked at him in the training room. Hes young, hes strong, hes feeling good. The last thing I think he needs is two days away from it. Hes making good contact.
Dustin Pedroia is out of the lineup for the sixth consecutive game with a torn muscle in his right thumb. But he is expected to play on Tuesday night against Baltimore.
Valentine said he has no particular update on Jacoby Ellsbury, who has yet to start swinging a bat because of his shoulder injury suffered in April.
Righthander Ross Ohlendorf opted out of his minor league deal when the Red Sox decided against adding him to the 40-man roster on June 1. The 29-year-old was 4-3 with a 4.61 earned run average in 10 starts for Triple A Pawtucket after signing with the Sox just before spring training.
Mark Prior pitched in his first game for Pawtucket on Saturday night, throwing a scoreless inning in relief against Lehigh Valley in the second game of a doubleheader. Prior walked one, struck out one and threw 14 of 23 pitches for strikes.
Darnell McDonald (Pawtucket) and Ryan Kalish (Portland) will continue their rehabs today.
