Bernie Williams and Jason Varitek are rekindling an old rivalry. Beantown and the Big Apple will serve as the battlegrounds once more ...

... over cupcakes?

Sure, cupcakes.

SoHo's Georgetown Cupcake store, owned by sisters Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis, is hosting a 'Boston vs. New York/Sister vs. Sister' competition beginning today, the ultimate aim being who can sell the most cupcakes in six days.

Not exactly a Sox-Yankees level of excitement, but it's for charity.

In New York, LaMontagne and Williams are together offering the Pinstripe Pretzel cupcake, made with butterscotch chips and crushed pretzels, to benefit the Hillside Food Outreach, which delivers groceries to needy New York families.

Kallinis and Varitek at Faneuil Hall in Boston are countering with the 'Green Monstah,' a green version of the store's signature red velvet cupcake. They are raising money for Pitching in For Kids, a New England non-profit.
