Notes: The Sox open a 10-game homestand, their longest of the season, with Buchholz on the mound. He is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA in his last eight starts. Buchholz was rocked by the Tigers on April 8 in Detroit, giving up seven runs on eight hits in four innings. ... Scherzer has won four of his last five starts and has a 2.81 ERA in that stretch. He faced the Sox on April 8 and allowed seven runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings. He is 1-2, 9.82 in five career starts against the Sox. ... Aviles (turf toe) is out of the lineup for the second straight day. But there also is no keeping down Ciriaco, who is hitting .349/.359/.460 since being called up.
