Notes: The Red Sox seek a split of the four-game series with Doubront on the hill looking to atone for his worst start of the season. Vargas is 1-2, 4.26 in four career starts against the Sox. He faced them at Fenway on May 14 and took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in six innings. Nava and Shoppach homered off him. ... Red Sox pitchers have an 0.97 ERA in five games against Seattle this season. ... Hot Sox: Gonzalez has hit in 11 straight at 17 of 46. Ross is 14 of 44 with nine extra-base hits and 12 RBIs in 12 games. Ortiz has hit safely in six straight at 8 of 22 with six extra-base hits and four RBIs. ... Pedroia has gone 159 at-bats since his last home run. That was on May 10.

Song of the Day: "Sunday Hardcore Matinee" by Dropkick Murphys.
