Germano traded to Cubs for cash
The Red Sox have traded righthander Justin Germano to the Cubs for cash considerations.
The Sox signed Germano as a minor league free agent Jan. 9. He was designated for assignment when the Sox activated Jacoby Ellsbury last week. His only appearance was against the Yankees earlier this month, when he threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Franklin Morales.
This will be the fifth Major League stop for the 30-year-old pitcher, who also spent time in San Diego, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.
He was 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA and 72 strikeouts (13 walks) in 16 starts (105 innings) this season in Pawtucket.
