Some interest in Kelly Shoppach
There has been interest all along in Red Sox catcher Kelly Shoppach from teams like Mets, Rangers, Nationals and Brewers. The Rangers were eliminated when they traded for Geovany Soto last night.
The one problem GM Ben Cherington has in dealing Shoppach is that he is their best defensive catcher. The Red Sox love the idea of bringing up Ryan Lavarnway, but don't want the defensive fallout.
This will be another interesting decision and it may be the decision is to hold on to him.
Teams have also asked about Jarrod Saltalamacchis, but if the Red Sox feel they're contending after a good stretch here against the Yankees and in the first game vs. Detroit to kick off a 10-game homestand, there's likely no chance they would deal their starting catcher.
