The Red Sox have acquired lehanded reliever Craig Breslow from Arizona for righthander Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podesdnik.

A member of the Red Sox for 13 games in 2006, Brewslow has a 2.70 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 40 appearances.

Breslow's 42 strikeouts are eighth among National League lefty relievers and he has recorded 17 strikeouts in 13 innings over his last 11 appearances. He spent the 2006 season in the Red Sox organization after signing as a minor league free agent.

Originally selected by the Brewers in the 26th round of the 2002 draft, the Yale product has made 335 career relief appearances over parts of seven seasons with the Padres (2005), Red Sox (2006), Indians (2008), Twins (2008-09), A’s (2009-11) and Diamondbacks (2012).

His 3.02 career ERA is the third-best mark in relief among active lefthanders with at least 300innings pitched.

The 29-year-old Albers has made 40 relief appearances for the Red Sox this season, going 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA. Podsednik, 36, played in 19 games with Boston this season from May 22-June 17, hitting .387 with three doubles, a home run, seven RBI, nine runs, two walks, six stolen bases and four sacrifices. He has also hit .281 in 25 games for Pawtucket.

"You never know when it’s going to happen and when it does you just kind of pack your stuff. I had a good time here. I enjoyed playing with these guys. It’s definitely the most talented team I’ve ever been on so I have a lot of good memories playing here in Boston" Albers said.

"I really wasn’t expecting it. I just got the call and they said, 'You’ve been traded,' and so there’s nothing you can do. It’s a done deal, so you move on."
