Red Sox making a series of roster moves
OAKLAND — The Red Sox are making a series of roster moves today. Here is what we know so far:
• First baseman Mauro Gomez has recalled from Triple A Pawtucket.
• RHP Justin Germano has been purchased from Pawtucket. He was 9-4 with a 2.60 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) this season and had the right to opt out of his deal if not called up.
• Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The other roster move could be RHP Clayton Mortensen being optioned.
• The Red Sox have released Bobby Jenks, reaching a contract termination settlement and placing him on unconditional release waivers. Jenks has not pitched all season as he recovers from back surgery. He pitched only 15.2 innings for the $12 million he received from the Red Sox.
Nick Cafardo had the news on the Jenks settlement a few weeks ago.
