Carl Crawford blames media for poor play in Boston

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Former Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford says the media made him miserable in Boston.

Crawford had a .260 batting average and a .292 OBP in two seasons with the Red Sox. But he told CBS Sports that the media somehow wanted him to play poorly.

"I think they want to see that in Boston. They love it when you're miserable," he said. "Burying people in the media, they think that makes a person play better. That media was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life."

What's perhaps most interesting about these comments are not that Crawford said them; people who knew him in Tampa predicted before the 2011 season that he would crack under the pressure of a big market. It's the Red Sox either didn't realize — or ignored — the fact that Crawford's personality would be an issue.

The same is true to a lesser degree with Adrian Gonzalez.

Bottom line: With every day that passes and every comment made, that trade gets better and better.
