BREAKDOWN: The Sox scored two runs on four hits in the second inning as Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli drove in runs. Ryan Sweeney (2 for 3) singled in a run in the fourth. Clay Buchholz and three relievers allowed two earned runs on nine hits.

THUMBS UP: The legend of Allen Webster continued to build. The 23-year-old righthander threw three innings, allowing an unearned on three hits. He struck out three without a walk. Webster has allowed two earned runs in 11 innings and struck out 14 against one walk. In one sequence, he hit 97 with a fastball to Lars Anderson, then struck him out swinging at a changeup. “He’s pretty damn good,” said manager John Farrell, who said the Sox might look to get Webster a start in the coming weeks. “He’s showing the ability to throw a breaking ball to both sides of the plate in addition to a live fastball.”

THUMBS DOWN: Lefty reliever Andrew Miller, who has been strong all spring, allowed a two-run homer by lefthanded-hitting minor leaguer Jim Negrych in the fifth inning. … Jackie Bradley Jr., the organization’s best outfield glove, botched a ball in the ninth inning that led to an unearned run. … Jacoby Ellsbury was 0 for 3 with a walk. He is 5 for 25 this spring and has not attempted a stolen base.

MEDICAL REPORT: Stephen Drew has not played since last Thursday because of a concussion. He has improved and the Sox are hopeful he can go through a full workout Thursday and play Friday.

AROUND THE BASES: Napoli, playing on back-to-back days for the first time, was 2 for 3 with a double and the RBI. He is 7 for 16 this spring with four extra-base hits, counting the game against Puerto Rico’s WBC team … Bradley singled in his only time up and is now 15 for 28 (.536) … The Sox are 2-0 against the Blue Jays this spring, surely angering Farrell’s many detractors in Canada. The teams play again March 22 in Dunedin. … The Sox have drawn 75 walks this spring. For what it’s worth, only the Indians (83) have more.
