FORT MYERS, Fla. Here's an email I received a few minutes ago from a Red Sox fan:

I was at last night's game and was fortunate to be able to see Jackie Bradley Jr. play. The reason why I am writing you is that when I was at the game a security staffer called my 10 year-old-daughter over and handed her an autographed Jackie Bradley Jr. bat.

This was totally unprompted and surely has made a huge impression on her. These small gestures by ball players have a long-lasting effect on children. I wish him a long, successful baseball career. He certainly has a family of lifelong fans now.

How great is that?

Jackie has obviously been a good player and based on spring training (and comments from folks who have known him over the years), he seems like a good guy, too. Nice to hear stories like that.
