Game over: Red Sox 6, Phillies 1: Nice win for the Sox, who were locked in a 1-1 game before scoring five runs in the seventh inning.
Back later with more.
Top of the 8th: Red Sox 6, Phillies 1: With two outs against Michael Stutes, Salty and Vava walked. When Iglesias grounded to short, the throw to second was late and pinch runner Matty Johnson scored from second. After Ellsbury walked, Victorino slammed a three-run triple to deep right. Pedroia (2 for 2, 2 walks) doubled in a run.
Top of the 7th: Phillies 1, Red Sox 1: Andrew Miller (2 K's) and Joel Hnarahan handled the top of the sixth. Hamels walked Pedroia again before getting Napoli to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.
Hamels is done for the night. His line: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. 81 pitches, 53 strikes.
Top of the 6th: Phillies 1, Red Sox 1: Lackey is done after a solid five innings. He allowed one run on four hits with no walks and one strikeout. He threw 50 of 73 pitches for strikes.
Iglesias had a bunt single for the Sox in the fifth but was thrown out stealing.
Top of the 5th: Phillies 1, Red Sox 1: Lackey worked around a double by Nix. Hamels then worked a quick 1-2-3 inning, fanning Gomes and Salty. Hamels has allowed one earned run in 14 Grapefruit League innings.
Top of the 4th: Phillies 1, Red Sox 1: Two nice defensive plays in the inning for the Sox. Middlebrooks bare-handed a bunt attempt by Orr and threw him out on the run. Napoli then made a diving stop on Rollins and fed Lackey for the out.
The Sox got a two-out single by Pedroia but that was it.
Top of the 3rd: Phillies 1, Red Sox 1: Middlebrooks doubled high off the wall in left. Gomes then singled to left. Salty lined to left, too shallow to score Middlebrooks. But Nava, who usually struggles hitting righthanded, worked the count full, fouled off two pitches and delivered a sac fly to left.
Very good plate appearance against a tough lefty. Nava has put himself in line for a roster spot and that may have clinched it.
Top of the 2nd: Phillies 1, Red Sox 0: Orr grounded a single up the middle and stole second with one out. Rollins then reached on a bloop double over third base that landed close to the foul line. Iglesias tried to make a diving stop. Young drove in a run with a groundout.
Pedroia drew a walk off Hamels before Napoli hit the ball well to center. But it hung up enough for Revere to track it down.
Pre-game: Good game at JetBlue Park tonight. The Red Sox are running out their best lineup (injuries aside) to take on Cole Hamels and the Phillies.
The game is on NESN Plus and WEEI. But we'll have occasional updates here, too.
