Game over: Red Sox 5, Pirates 2: The Sox beat the Pirates for the second straight day to improve to 4-4.

Middle of the 9th: Red Sox 5, Pirates 2: Steven Wright allowed two runs. When he walked Jeremy Farrell (son of the Red Sox manager) to load the bases, Alex Wilson came in. Wilson got a line drive back to the mound off the bat of Oscar Tejeda (a former Red Sox prospect) and doubled off Farrell to end the inning.

Top of the 8th: Red Sox 5, Pirates 0: Jon Lester just told reporters that he mixed in a few secondary pitches in his outing and felt good about his command of them. It has been a very efficient spring training for the big lefty so far.

Napoli felt fine too and said he liked all the work he got at first base.

Top of the 6th: Red Sox 5, Pirates 0: Dustin Pedroia (2 for 2 with a walk) had a two-run RBI single in the fifth inning.

De La Rosa went two innings and struck out two. He has looked good in camp.

Top of the 5th: Red Sox 3, Pirates 0: Lester allowed one hit in three scoreless innings and struck out two with one walk. De La Rosa replaced him. Napoli played four innings at first and looked fine.

Top of the 3rd: Red Sox 3, Pirates 0: Busy night for Napoli, who has had to make a variety of plays at first including short-hopping a throw from Lester.

Top of the 2nd: Red Sox 3, Pirates 0: Lester retired the side in order, the first out coming when Napoli fielded a push bunt by Ford and beat him to the bag. He was tested right away.

The Sox then beat up on Pirates starter Jeff Locke. Ellsbury singled and was thrown out going to second. Pedroia and Victorino walked. Napoli then lined a ball off Locke's foot that went into left field and a run scored.

Drew doubled in a run. Napoli then scored on a wild pitch.

Pre-game: It's a bit chilly at the park and there are plenty of empty seats for Pirates-Sox. Jon Lester will be on the mound for three innings.

Stick around for occasional updates. The game will be on NESN, too.
