Final: Red Sox 6, Rays 2

Game over: Red Sox 6, Rays 2: John Lackey and five relievers held the Rays to two runs on five hits. Lyle Overbay with two hits for the Sox and David Ross with a three-run homer.

Middle of the 8th: Red Sox 6, Rays 2: Daniel Bard had a decent seventh inning. He threw 17 pitches, 9 for strikes, and had good life on his fastball. He allowed a single then got a strike 'em out / throw 'em out double play. A grounder to second ended the inning.

Off to the clubhouse. Will catch you up later on.

Middle of the 7th: Red Sox 6, Rays 2: The Sox scored three runs in the seventh. Ciriaco had an RBI single and Hazelbaker an RBI double. Another scored on a wild pitch.

Top of the 6th: Red Sox 3, Rays 2: Lackey's line: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 66 pitches, 41 strikes. He has thrown 9.2 innings this spring and walked three. That's a good sign for a pitcher coming back from surgery.

Also: Nick Cafardo reports from Fort Myers that David Ortiz has been given the results of his MRI but wants John Farrell to announce the news after the game here.

Middle of the 4th: Red Sox 3, Rays 2: Nava walked before Sweeney singled with one out. Ross, who mashes lefties, then homered to center off Moore. Overbay followed with a single before Moore finished his outing by striking out Sutton. Ciriaco reached on a throwing error but was picked off first to end the inning.

Top of the 4th: Rays 2, Rays 0: With one out, singles by Anderson, Rodriguez and Escobar scored a run. After Johnson walked, Longoria's sacrifice fly made it 2-0.

Top of the 3rd: Sox 0, Rays 0: Moore got three fly balls in the top of the second. Lackey then retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning. Six up and six down for him.

Top of the 2nd: Sox 0, Rays 0: Nava had a two-out single off Moore before Lavarnway flied to right. Lackey had a perfect bottom of the inning.

Pre-game: Nice day here in Port Charlotte for the game. Sox will get a look at Rays lefty Matt Moore, the impressive 23-year-old who has a 3.76 ERA in parts of two seasons.
