Game over: Red Sox 9, Rays 2: Sox tacked on four in the ninth inning as their JV lineup rolled to a victory. Blake Swihart, the 20-year-old catching prospect, had a two-run double.

Top of the 8th: Red Sox 5, Rays 2: Iglesias had a triple and scored on a sac fly by Lavarnway. That's six extra-base hits for Iggy.

Bard retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning. Off to the clubhouse, back later.

Top of the 7th: Red Sox 4, Rays 2: Bermudez drove in another run with a single. The Sox have nine hits. Andrew Bailey then worked around a two-out double by Anderson by striking out Gimenez swinging.

Top of the 6th: Red Sox 3, Rays 2: With the Sox up, 3-2, and one out, Aceves hit Rodriguez with a pitch. It was Rodriguez who homered in the third inning.

Rodriguez was upset and Lavarnway jogged along the line to keep an eye on things. When Rodriguez shouted at Aceves, the pitcher shouted back. Rodriguez then took a step toward the mound and was retrained by the first base coach, Dave Myers.

A few of the Rays popped out of the dugout but the umpires kept order. Aceves was then taken out of the game. Andrew Miller finished the inning out.

Aceves' line: 41. IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR.

Top of the 5th: Red Sox 3, Rays 2: The Sox went in order against Hernandez. Aceves walked Loney. A double by Anderson pushed Loney to third. But when Gimenez grounded to third, Drew Sutton threw Loney out at the plate. Figueroa then grounded to second to end the inning.

Top of the 4th: Red Sox 3, Rays 2: Lavarnway had a single for the Sox, but that was it. Then Jennings bunted for a hit before Rodriguez homered.

Top of the 3rd: Red Sox 3, Rays 0: Linares reached on a two-base throwing error by Roberts. Bermudez then singled in a run.

Aceves had a 1-2-3 inning, somewhat unconventionally. With one out, Anderson reached on a single when his high pop in front of the plate fell in. Overbay probably should have caught the ball. He alertly picked it up and threw Anderson out at second.

Top of the 2nd: Red Sox 2, Rays 0: Iglesias and Bradley (16 of 32) had singles. After Lavarnway grounded out, Overbay had a two-run double.

Aceves worked around a single by Rodriguez and a ground-rule double by Scott by getting Loney to ground sharply back to the mound. Ace snared the hot shot and then threw the ball harder to first base.

Pre-game: Good afternoon from Charlotte Sports Park. A team of Sox prospects and bench guys will play the Rays. Alfredo Aceves will be on the mound against Roberto "Fausto" Hernandez.

We'll have updates throughout. Feel free to leave a comment.
