Game over: Yankees 5, Red Sox 1: Despite a lineup of minor leaguers, the Yankees travel two hours and beat the Red Sox. Sox got a run in the ninth.

Ryan Dempster was terrific for three innings, as were Koji Uehara and Andrew Miller for an inning each.

Middle of the 9th: Yankees 5, Red Sox 1: Thomas Neal of the Yankees just homered off Pete Ruiz of the Red Sox. Sounds like an Eastern League update.

Top of the 9th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 1: JetBlue Park emptying out. The Red Sox have only four hits.

Middle of the 8th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 1: Andrew Bailey allowed a run in the 8th.

Top of the 7th: Yankees 3, Red Sox 1: Third scoreless inning for 23-year RHP Jose Ramirez. Off to the clubhouse, back later.

Middle of the 6th: Yankees 3, Red Sox 1: Ugly inning there for Joel Hanrahan.

With one out, Joseph reached on a broken-bat single. Wilson then reached on an error, the ball going through Drew Sutton's legs at third. Should have been a double play with the catcher running.

Gardner walked to load the bases. Nunez grounded a single to right to score a run. Nix then reached on a fielder's choice to score another. Another error by Sutton made it 3-1. When Hanrahan walked Johnson, that was it for him.

Tazawa came in and fanned Mesa to finally end the inning.

Top of the 6th: Red Sox 1, Yankees 0: Salty reached on a double, the ball bounding off the second base bag. But that was it. Ross flied to left and Bradley to center before Ellsbury grounded out.

Middle of the 5th: Red Sox 1, Yankees 0: Three strikeouts for Miller. Red Sox pitchers have retired 14 in a row since Gardner's infield single to start the game.

Top of the 5th: Red Sox 1, Yankees 0: Sox wasted an opportunity against Jose Ramirez. Pedroia and Drew singled to start the inning but Napoli fanned, Nava flew to center and Middlebrooks grounded out.

Middle of the 4th: Red Sox 1, Yankees 0: Red Sox went in order in the third. Uehara then dispatched of the Yankees. So pitchers have retired 11 straight Yankees.

Middle of the 3rd: Red Sox 1, Yankees 0: Dempster is probably done for the day after 3 innings and 28 pitches (25 strikes). His line: 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K and six groundball outs. He was in complete control.

Top of the 3rd: Red Sox 1, Yankees 0: Napoli crushed one over the 420-foot sign in center. At real Fenway, it would have been 5-10 rows up in the seats just to the left of the triangle. So yeah, a bomb. Middlebrooks walked with one out before Salty bounced into a 3-6-3 double play.

Middle of the 2nd: Yankees 0, Red Sox 0: Rivera grounded to short, Johnson (a career Red Sox killer) struck out and Mesa grounded to third.

Top of the 2nd: Yankees 0, Red Sox 0: Three batters, three groundouts for Adam Warren.

Middle of the 1st: Yankees 0, Red Sox 0: Gardner reached on a slow grounder to short. Drew tried a do-or-die play on the speedy Yankees center fielder and couldn't pick up the ball. Nunez grounded into a double play then Nix flied to center.

Pre-game: Good afternoon from JetBlue Park where the Red Sox will play assorted Yankees prospects, minor-league contract guys and Brett Gardner.

Ryan Dempster will be on the mound. The game is on NESN and WEEI but we'll have updates here, too.
