FORT MYERS, Fla. -- David Ortiz said this morning he may try to run today if he gets the OK from the training staff.

Ortiz ran the bases on Saturday but not on Sunday, as was planned. Ortiz has continued to do his fielding drills at first base, but has experienced some soreness in the heel. There may be some question whether he will start the season, but Ortiz seems determined to be ready for Opening Day.

The Red Sox are currently in a meeting with the Players Association to go over numerous things including the more stringent PED testing, blood testing for HGH, which is now year-round, and the improved testing for testosterone, which is designed to not only establish a baseline of testosterone level for each player, but to monitor whether that level rises.

MIchael Weiner, who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumor, has toured 11 spring training camps so far. He is joined today by former Red Sox players Mike Myers and Tony Clark, who work for the MLBPA.
