Game over: Red Sox 11, Yankees 1 The Red Sox win it with power ball tonight. A third-inning grand slam by Mike Napoli off Phil Hughes pretty much turned this into Boston's game early on. Daniel Nava hit a three-run shot in the eighth and Stephen Drew with a solo homer in the 9th.
Nava went 4 for 6 with four RBI. Felix Doubront pitched well and is now 4-2. The game was played in 3:25 before a sellout of 48,784.
Top 9th: Red Sox 11, Yankees 1 - Red Sox are piling on. Stephen Drew homered. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a ground rule double and scored on Jose Iglesias' single. Jackie Bradley doubled to left field before Nava grounded out as the 11th run scored. That's four RBI for Nava.
Bottom 8th: Red Sox 8, Yankees 1 - Yankees trying to catch final period of Bruins-Penguins. Go down 1-2-3. Nice quick hands by Jose Iglesias at third on slow grounder by Vernon Wells.
Top 8th: Red Sox 8, Yankees 1 - Daniel Nava caps off quite a night with a three-run homer. Nava went 4-for-5 with three singles and a homer. He's now driven in 36 runs with his eighth home run.
Bottom 7th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - Tazawa with a strong inning. Strikes out Youkilis who has three Ks on the night.
Top 7th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - A single by Napoli was quickly erased on Drew's double-play grounder. Game has really dragged since Napoli grand slam.
Bottom 6th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - Doubront handles the Yankees again.
Top 6th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - A pair of two-out hits by Nava and Carp, but the rally stops there as Pedroia pops to right.
Bottom 5th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - The Yanks can't do anything against Doubront, who strikes out Youkilis and Teixeria. Doubront has good stuff tonight.
Top 5th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - Two hits (Pedroia and Drew) and three strikeouts (Ortiz, Napoli, Salty). Preston Claiborne is a pretty good talent.
Bottom 4th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 1 - Back-to-back singles by Jayson Nix and David Adams produces a sacrifice fly by Chris Stewart for the Yankees' first run.
Top 4th: Red Sox 5, Yankees 0 - The Red sox got a single out of Daniel Nava, but no more off Hughes.
Bottom 3rd: Red Sox 5, Yankees 0 - Doubront allowed a single but he struck out two.
Top 3rd: Red Sox 5, Yankees 0 - Mike Napoli hit a grand slam to rightcenter off Phillip Hughes on a 2-2 pitch. It was after the Yankees had walked David Ortiz intentionally to load the bases. The Sox scored their first run when Mike Carp drove in Jackie Bradley who led off the inning with a double deep to center. Daniel Nava also reached with a single. After Pedroia struck out, Ortiz was walked.
Bottom 2nd: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 - Doubront labored and was fortunate to get a double-play grounder while walking two and allowing a single to Ichiro in the inning.
Top 2nd: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 - Mike Napoli reached on a single to center and advanced on a wild pitch by Hughes. But Hughes got the next three hitters as the Red Sox stranded the lead run.
Bottom 1st: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 The Yankees put two on against Felix Doubront but the lefty was able to strike out Vernon Wells to escape the damage.
Top 1st: Red Sox 0, Yankees 0 - The Red Sox batted against Yankees starter Phil Hughes. He walked Mike carp, batting second in the Red Sox order, but retired the rest of the side including a called third strike of David Ortiz.
