Game over: Orioles 5, Red Sox 4 (13 innings): The Red Sox lost a tough one here in the bottom of the 13th when Chris Davis blooped a single to left to score Nick Markakis with the winning run against Red Sox reliever Alex Wilson.
The Red Sox had tied the game 4-4 in the seventh inning and the teams battled one another until the 13th when Wilson, who did yeoman work, walked Markakis with two outs. After Adam Jones singled to right, Davis, the slugger, blooped the single over shortstop. The game was played in 4:35 before 20,018 at Camden Yards.
Top 13th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Troy Patton shuts down the Red Sox again. Ten straight Red Sox have gone down.
Bottom 12th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Valencia doubled to left field with two outs, but the Orioles couldn't do anything with it against Alex Wilson, who pitched a second effective inning of relief.
Top 12th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Closer Jim Johnson has an easy inning with two tappers back to the mound and a ground out to second base.
Bottom 11th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Alex Wilson had an impressive inning taking care of Markakis, Jones and Davis. Markakis flew out deep to left where Gomes made a nice leaping catch near the wall, but Jones popped up to the catcher and Davis struck out swinging.
Top 11th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - After retiring Dustin Pedroia on a ground out, Buck Showalter took O'Day out and brought lefty Troy Patton to pitch to Ortiz, who hit it hard, but a liner caught by center fielder Adam Jones. John Farrell then brought up Jonny Gomes to pinch-hit for Mike Carp, who hit a hard grounder to Manny Machado at third. Machado's throw was scooped nicely by Chris Davis to secure the third out.
Bottom 10th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Craig Breslow replaced Junichi Tazawa after he had retired Valencia with a fly ball out. Breslow walked leadoff man Nate McLouth, but got Manny Machado to ground out into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Top 10th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Sidearmer Darren O'Day came on to relieve Tommy Hunter. After recording two quick outs, Jacoby Ellsbury battled him to a 3-2 count before Wieters was called for catchers interference when his glove hit Ellsbury's bat. Ellsbury quickly stole second base, his 30th steal. Victorino also had a tough at-bat vs. O'Day, who finally struck him out to end the inning.
Bottom 9th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Matt Wieters tried to win it for the O's with a two-out double to right field, but Junichi Tazawa served up three pop up outs in the inning to send this into extras.
Top 9th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - As tough as Andrew Miller has been for the Red Sox, Tommy Hunter has matched it for the Orioles. He's retired six straight.
Bottom 8th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Andrew Miller tough to crack for the Orioles. He did walk McLouth, but Orioles couldn't get around on him.
Top 8th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Tommy Hunter does a very effective job against Victorino, Pedroia and Ortiz, making quick order of the meat of the Red Sox order.
Bottom 7th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Andrew Miller struck out the side and also allowed a walk to J.J. Hardy.
Top 7th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 4 - Three straight hits by Nava, Salty and Middlebrooks loaded the bases. Drew drove in a run with a long sacrifice fly to center and Ellsbury nixed an inning-ending double-play when he hustled down the line to beat the throw while the tying run scored. Both runs came off Matusz.
Bottom 6th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 2 - O's out a couple of runners on base with one out, but can't capitalize off Franklin Morales.
Top 6th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 2 - Gausman finally came out after allowing a single to Pedroia. Brian Matusz came on and popped out Ortiz and struck out Carp.
Bottom 5th: Orioles 4, Red Sox 2 - Matt Wieters knocked in the fourth run off Doubront. Will Middledbrooks committed an error on a slow roller which opened the floodgates. Doubront hit Adam Jones with a pitch, and after Davis struck out, Wieters singled to left to score the run. Doubront walked JJ Hardy and that spelled the end of the night for him. Franklin Morales came on.
Top 5th: Orioles 3, Red Sox 2 - A Salty double wasted as Gausman bears down to retire the next two hitters.
Bottom 4th: Orioles 3, Red Sox 2 - Doubront allowed a double to Valencia, but stranded the runner there with two straight strikeouts by Flaherty and McLouth.
Top 4th: Orioles 3, Red Sox 2 - Back-to-back homers by David Ortiz and Mike Carp to center field, have brought the Red Sox back to within one run. Carp entered the game in the third as a replacement for Mike Napoli, who left the game because of sickness.
Bottom 3rd: Orioles 3, Red Sox 0 - Danny Valencia, who had a cup of coffee and danish with the Red Sox, homered to give the O's the early lead. Ryan Flaherty followed with a double to left. He was advanced to third on a sac bunt by Nate McLouth and scored on Manny Machado's single to center. The redhot Chris Davis singled in another run. Doubront eventually got out of the jam and limited the damage to two runs.
Top 3rd: Red Sox 0, Orioles 0 - Gausman baffled Boston in spring training and has been pretty tough so far as he retired the side including his fourth strikeout.
Bottom 2nd: Red Sox 0, Orioles 0 - Chris Davis was hit off the right shoulder by Felix Doubront with one out, but he retired Wieters on a foul pop to Dustin Pedroia and a tapper back to the mound by JJ Hardy.
Top 2nd: Red Sox 0, Orioles 0 - A Mike Napoli double down the right field line didn't yield anything As young Steve Gausman struck out the side including the final two batters after the double - Nava and Saltalamacchia.
Bottom 1st: Red Sox 0, Orioles 0 - Doubront gets out of the gate well. A 1-2-3 inning.
Top 1st: Red Sox 0, Orioles 0 - A one-out single by Shane Victorino was erased when Dustin Pedroia lined into a double-play to Manny Machado at third base.
