Final: Tigers 4, Red Sox 3

Game over: Tigers 4, Red Sox 3 Andrew Bailey surrendered a walk-off two-run homer to Jhonny Peralta on a 1-2 pitch down the middle of the plate after he had walked Victor Martinez to lead off the inning. The game was played before 36,939 at Comerica Park.

Top 9th: Red Sox 3, Tigers 2 - Shane Victorino managed a double off Tiger lefty Drew Smyly with two outs and he stole third, but couldn't score. This set the stage for Andrew Bailey.

Bottom 8th: Red Sox 3, Tigers 2 - Prince Fielder made a bid to tie the game but flew out to deep to center right in front of the wall to Jacoby Ellsbury facing Koji Uehara.

Top 8th: Red Sox 3, Tigers 2 - David Ortiz was 1 for 15 against Phil Coke, but he singled to right passed Prince Fielder, who couldn't bend over in time to field the ball scoring Shane Victorino with the go-ahead run..

Bottom 7th: Red Sox 2, Tigers 2 - Another solid effort by Lackey, who through seven has allowed seven hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts. He's thrown 98 pitches, which could put him in line for at least one more inning. In the seventh, he allowed a leadoff hit to Dirks, but then escaped.

Top 7th: Red Sox 2, Tigers 2 - The Tigers are already into their bullpen. Sox retired in order.

Bottom 6th: Red Sox 2, Tigers 2 - Prince Fielder singled to right, then half-ran to second base and made no attempt to break up the double-play that the very disappointing Victor Martinez hit into.

Top 6th: Red Sox 2, Tigers 2 - The Red Sox went down in order.

Bottom 5th: Red Sox 2, Tigers 2 - The Tigers loaded the bases when Dirks walked, Pena singled to right and Jackson reached on an infield hit with two outs. Hunter then blooped a single to center scoring two runs.

Top 5th: Red Sox 2, Tigers 0 - Torii Hunter, normally an outstanding outfielder, misplayed what should have been a Jose Iglesias single into a triple when he took a bad angle to the basehit and allowed it to travel to the rightcenter wall which jetted out. Jacoby Ellsbury drove him in with a single to center.

Bottom 4th: Red Sox 1, Tigers 0 - A one-out Miguel Cabrera double to right and a subsequent wild pitch put Cabrera at third base, but Lackey again stopped the damage getting Prince Fielder to fly out and Victor Martinez to ground out to first base.

Top 4th: Red Sox 1, Tigers 0 - David Ortiz hit a first pitch slider by Jose Alvarez over the fence in rightcenter to give the Red Sox their first lead. It was Ortiz' 15th homer. Ryan Lavarnway later doubled, but the Sox couldn't get any more.

Bottom 3rd: Red Sox 0, Tigers 0 - Tigers got a one-out double down the left field line from Omar Infante with one out, but Lackey threw a pair of ground ball outs to keep the game scoreless.

Top 3rd: Red Sox 0, Tigers 0 - The Red Sox left the bases loaded when Dustin Pedroia flew out to right field. with two outs Jose Alvarez walked Jose Iglesias and Jacoby Ellsbury and hit Shane Victorino off the pant leg.

Bottom 2nd: Red Sox 0, Tigers 0 - Fielder, Martinez and Peralta set set down by Lackey, who has retired the six batters he's faced.

Top 2nd: Red Sox 0, Tigers 0 - David Ortiz struck out to open the inning. Mike Napoli blooped a single to center, but was erased on an inning-ending double-play by Jonny Gomes.

Bottom 1st: Red Sox 0, Tigers 0 - John Lackey struck out Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera in a 1-2-3, 13-pitch inning.

Top 1st: Red Sox 0, Tigers 0 - Former Red Sox farmhand Jose Alvarez retired the Red Sox in order and also struck out Dustin Pedroia to end the inning.
