Final: Red Sox 5, Rockies 3

Game over: Red Sox 5, Rockies 3 Koji Uehara's first opportunity after being named Andrew Bailey's replacement, went well. He retired the Rockies in order (two strikeouts) in the 9th to protect a 2-run lead for John Lackey, who pitched seven strong innings and struck out 12. The game was played in 2:36 before 34,632. Toronto comes in for four games starting Thursday.

Bottom 8th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 3 - After three strikeouts, Jarrod Saltalamacchia drew a walk, but Jose Iglesias grounded into an inning-ending double-play.

Top 8th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 3 - Michael Cuddyer homered again, this time hitting the Sports Authority sign.

Bottom 7th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 2 - Victorino doubled for his third hit. After David Ortiz was walked intentionally with one out, the Sox went down.

Top 7th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 2 - Rockies go down in order vs. Lackey. The big righthander is done after seven, allowing two runs, no walks eight hits and 12 strikeouts. He threw 98 pitches.

Bottom 6th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 2 - Stephen Drew tripled around the railing in right, but was gunned down at the plate on Jose Iglesias' grounder to shortstop with the infield drawn in.

Top 6th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 2 - Michael Cuddyer hit a mammoth homer off the Advil sign in leftcenter. His 12th homer extended his major league high hitting streak to 23 games. which also tied a Rockies record (Dante Bichette)..

Bottom 5th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 1 - Dustin Pedroia singled to lead off the inning, but that was it for Sox.

Top 5th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 1 - A single by Yorvit Torrealba was all Lackey allowed. He picked up his 9th strikeout.

Bottom 4th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 1 - Sox go down in order.

Top 4th: Red Sox 5, Rockies 1 - Always thought Helton would have done major damage had he played in Boston. Three years ago Theo Epstein thought about it, but didn't like the contract. Anyway, Helton doubled off he centerfield fence with one out. Lackey has 8 strike outs.

Bottom 3rd: Red Sox 5, Rockies 1 - Red Sox just killing Colorado pitching. They loaded the bases on singles by Victorino and Pedroia and a walk to Ortiz. Mike Napoli singled to right scoring the fourth run and Daniel Nava's sacrifice fly scored the fifth run. The Sox made two outs after that to get Oswalt out of the inning.

Top 3rd: Red Sox 3, Rockies 1 - Lackey allowed a bunt single to Carlos Gonzalez, but nothing else.

Bottom 2nd: Red Sox 3, Rockies 1 - Sox retired in order by Oswalt. Iglesias tried two unsuccessful bunt attempts in the at-bat and popped a bunt back to Oswalt.

Top 2nd: Red Sox 3, Rockies 1 - Lackey has an impressive inning striking out the side.

Bottom 1st: Red Sox 3, Rockies 1 - Red Sox got it right back and more. Jacoby Ellsbury doubled off the left field wall and scored on Shane Victorino's single to left. David Ortiz continued with a double high atop the left field wall scoring Victorino. Daniel Nava sent a grounder up the middle which hit the second base bag, scoring Ortiz with the third run.

Top 1st: Rockies 1, Red Sox 0 - The Rockies scored on John Lackey when Carlos Gonzalez singled, stole second and scored on Wilson Rosario's single to right.
