Six days after being sidelined indefinitely with a fracture in his right foot, Jacoby Ellsbury began physical activity, albeit not baseball activity.
"He comes out of the boot for a period of time for some exercises, some work in the pool," said Sox manager John Farrell, who added that there is still no projected date of return.
After the center fielder had an exam and got a second opinion, Farrell said, doctors and trainers agreed that today was the first day to for him to test out the injured foot, as the swelling has subsided.
"He's on target as far as that initial plan," Farrell said.
How much he does going forward will be determined day to day.
"It'll be to tolerance as we go through it," Farrell said. "That was outlined in conjunction with the doctors and the training staff here. So that's just initiated today."
