NEW YORK Greetings from Yankee Stadium. A few pregame notes:

Jarrod Saltalamacchia (lower back soreness) is out of the lineup for the third consecutive game. He plans to take batting practice Friday and return to the lineup Saturday.

"It's getting there," Saltalamacchia said. "There was inflammation that was making it tough on me. It was good that I was able to get a few days."

Manager John Farrell said Ryan Lavarnway was the pick to catch tonight because they feel he's a better matchup against Ivan Nova than David Ross.

Allen Webster pitched in relief for Triple A Pawtucket Wednesday night. If he returns to the Red Sox, it would be in a relief role.

Clay Buchholz pitches tonight for Pawtucket in Rochester, N.Y. He is likely to return to the Red Sox rotation Tuesday or Wednesday against Tampa Bay. Farrell said the Red Sox have not decided who is coming out of the rotation. But there will not be a six-man rotation. With all the days off coming up, that's not practical.

Infielder Sean Coyle is injured and will not be able to play in the Arizona Fall League. Infielder Mookie Betts will replace him.
