SCORE: Red Sox 3, Blue Jays 1.

RECORD: 7-8-1.

BREAKDOWN: The Sox have won five of their last six games. Clay Buchholz threw four scoreless innings for the win in Dunedin. Corey Brown had an RBI double in the fifth inning. Brandon Snyder (sacrifice fly) and Sean Coyle (double) drove in runs in the eighth.

THUMBS UP: Lefthanded reliever Rich Hill made his spring training debut and retired the side in order in the fifth inning. Hill arrived in camp March 6 following the death of his infant son and wasted no time getting ready to pitch. “It’s nice to go out there and compete. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be out there,” he said. “It was great.” Manager John Farrell said it’s “pretty remarkable” how well Hill has been able to pitch in a short time.

THUMBS DOWN: It’s been a rough spring for righthander Rubby De La Rosa. In three appearances against major league teams he has allowed six runs on 12 hits over six innings. He gave up a run in the eighth inning against the Jays.

MEDICAL REPORT: Shane Victorino was scheduled to play in a minor league game back in Fort Myers but was scratched with some discomfort in his surgically repaired right thumb. Victorino did take batting practice and is expected to play on Saturday.

AROUND THE BASES: Brown, a non-roster player with a lot of physical tools, nearly made a diving catch to rob Jose Reyes of a hit in the first inning. Brown dropped the ball but bounced up and threw out Reyes going to second. … The game ended with minor leaguer Pete Hissey making a sliding catch on the left field line. … Lefty Tommy Layne, who pitched an inning, hasn’t given up a run five outings.

NEXT GAME: The Red Sox host the Phillies on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Jon Lester will face Cliff Lee in a game that will be on NESN and WEEI-FM.
