Edwin Encarnacion has been one of the hottest hitters in the American League in the month of May, and this series against the Red Sox was no exception.
On Tuesday, Encarnacion hit two home runs over the Green Monster en route to a 7-4 Blue Jays win. He picked up right where he left off Wednesday, crushing one off Clay Buchholz to lead off the top of the second for the first Toronto run of the game.
Turns out he wasn’t done, as the very next inning he hit another bomb over the Monster, this time with Adam Lind on base, to double the Blue Jays’ 2-0 lead for his fourth home run in seven at bats.
Through Wednesday, he had hit 11 home runs in May after hitting just two in April. Encarnacion’s career-high for homers was in 2012, when he hit 42 in 151 games for the Blue Jays, and he hit 36 last season as an AL All-Star. His previous career-high before 2012 was 26 in 146 games with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008.
Take a look at each of his home runs on Wednesday in GIFs by Boston.com’s Austin Tedesco. The two shots were so similar that at first glance the only difference between the two is the time of day.
