Notes: The Red Sox have been outscored 30-14 during the current six game skid which finds them at a season-low five games below .500 heading into this afternoon's game... First baseman Mike Napoli remains out of the lineup with flu-like symptoms, but John Farrell said there's a chance he could be available off the bench... The good news with 7-1 Mark Buehrle on the hill for the Jays is that the Sox have gone 10-5 this season when facing a lefthanded starter as opposed to being 10-20 when facing a righthanded starter... The Red Sox handed Buehrle his only loss when the Jays lefty gave up a season-worst six earned runs and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings of an 8-1 Red Sox win April 25... Since the start of 2013, Jon Lester is 11-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 18 regular season starts following a Red Sox loss... Edwin Encarnacion has homered seven times in his last six games and twice in each of first two games against the Red Sox in this series... Jose Bautista is 11 for 57 with 12 strikeouts against Lester, but four of those hits were home runs... Dustin Pedroia has 14-for-36 (.389) against Buehrle.

Red Sox manager John Farrell spoke about the marquee matchup between Lester and Buehrle before during his pregame presser at Fenway. “Two lefthanders that have gotten off to strong starts,” Farrell said. “Jon’s might not be reflected in the win-loss, but when you look at the number of innings, the number of strikeouts, the number of quality starts he’s made for us, this should be a very good matchup once again.” Farrell has not named the replacement Felix Doubront, who was scheduled to go Sunday against the Rays before landing on the 15-day DL with a shoulder strain. Farrell has yet to decide which level of the minors that Stephen Drew will begin his preparation inclusion in the major league lineup.
